Podolski and Neuer are eying another victory against second-placed Belgium on Tuesday as clinching the UEFA Euro 2012 trophy remains a must for the DFB Eleven.
Germany came second behind Spain at the 2008 European Championship and Podolski is now thinking about burying the past by achieving glory at the continental level in 2012. Speaking to Sport1, the striker was quoted as saying:

“Our aim is to win the European Championship title next year, and we have the quality to do that. We really want to do it after coming so close in recent tournaments.”

On Tuesday, Germany will close their UEFA Euro 2012 qualification campaign with a match against Belgium at the LTU Arena in Dusseldorf. Even a cricket score line in favor of the Belgians won’t hurt the Germans’ position in Group A.

Still, the DFB Eleven insists that there’s a lot at stake ahead of the Belgium encounter. What Germany want is to seal the qualifying phase on a high.

“We are only looking at ourselves and not who can come second. Our aim is 10 wins from 10 games. We want to win,” Podolski reminded. Bragging about Germany’s potential, the forward concluded:

“We have developed a lot in recent years and we are very consistent and stable. That is why we win such games so clearly.”

In the German squad, the ambition among the players seems to be the same. This perhaps explains why unity looks to be present and inspiring. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who is Germany’s first choice keeper since almost two years now, has urged his team to maintain the momentum at all cost.

“We don't want to show any weaknesses and we want to keep our qualifying run as flawless as possible,” Neuer stated according to Bild.

“The smallest display of weakness could have implications for us during Euro 2012 and we can't allow that. The national team has never boasted so much quality.

“We are solid in every position and that goes for the substitutes’ bench as well. Our confidence is high. When you win matches it makes you even stronger, and that strengthens my optimism for the near future.”

Germany defeat bitter rivals Turkey 3-1 on Matchday 9 of the UEFA Euro 2012 qualifiers. They are well on top of Group A with 27 points and a (+25) goal difference.

Belgium follow behind with 15 points whereas Turkey are behind with 14. With Turkey paired against minnows Azerbaijan on Tuesday night, predictions are that Belgium will eventually lose out on the runners-up spot through a defeat to Germany as they Turkish may hit 17 points in the end.
