The sudden death of Theyab Awana, also known as Awana Diab, has pushed numerous football fans from around the globe to express their regret through messages on top sites like Youtube and Facebook.
Theyab Awana reportedly died in a tragic car accident on Sunday at the Sheikh Zayed Bridge. The 21-year-old footballer was returning from a training session for the national team with his brother Raad.

It is claimed that Theyab Awana was using his mobile phone as the accident happened. Raad died several hours after Theyab.

Awana Diab sensationally shot to fame around the world in July. The winger did so through a cheeky penalty kick against Lebanon in 7-2 victory.

Awana Diab converted it with the back of his heel; the highlight of his penalty goal eventually attracted over 1 million views on Youtube. Commenting on the tragic death of the rising star, acting president of the AFC Zhang Jilong declared:

“On behalf of AFC and the Asian football family, I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the UAE football community, family and friends of Awana. His demise at such a young age is a great loss to Asian and UAE football in particular.”

UEA FA president Khalfan Al Rumaithi added the following:

“Awana was very honest, keen and committed to his duties. It's a great loss for us, it is very painful news.”

Theyab Awana made 9 appareances for the United Arab Emirates national team. He won a few prizes as well which include a silver medal at the 2010 Asian Games.
