2011 English Premier League champions Manchester United and 2011 FA Cup winners Manchester City will clash in the 2011 FA Community Shield on Sunday, August 7.
Manchester United are entering this fixture as favorites. The Red Devils have won 3 of the past 4 Community Shield contests. But rivals Manchester City have shown a lot of strength lately with their 3-0 demolition of 2010 UEFA Champions League and 2011 Coppa Italia winners Internazionale.

The Sky Blues will be out to fancy their chances one more time against Alex Ferguson’s Red Devils. Roberto’s players have a clear idea of what it’s like to defeat Manchester United. On their road to the 2011 FA Cup, Manchester City stunned their local rivals in the semi-finals and they’re looking to repeat this feat ahead of the 2011/2012 season.

But while it’s important to kick start the new campaign on a high, Manchester United assistant coach Mike Phelan believes that there’s no need to add more importance to Sunday’s Community Shield showdown.

“It is a tasty one because it is the two Manchester clubs coming up against each other,” Mike Phelan told reporters as he looked forward to the match.

“But we may try out a few new things. We have a week to prepare.”

New signing Sergio Aguero may feature for Manchester City at the delight of the Sky Blues’ excited supporters.
