The jersey of the retired Ronaldo has been passed onto AC Milan’s Alexandre Pato ahead of the 2011 Copa America.

Alexandre Pato has been offered Ronaldo's jersey ahead of the 2011 Copa America.Pato, who plays in a deep position as a forward at Milan, has now been tasked with a more direct role under Mano Menezes’ instructions. However, the player has no concerns on that matter and he’s willing to make the most of his opportunities as Brazil’s new number 9. During a press conference on Wednesday, Pato stated:

“I still have a lot to learn, but my time has come at the national level. I’m ready to fight for the Copa America title and to win the tournament. We have a great team and we will do our utmost to play a great Copa.

“It is an honour for me to be handed the number 9 jersey. It used to be Ronaldo's jersey and he was my idol. It's now my time to shine in this shirt. I am happy and feel ready to wear this jersey.

“Mano Menezes sees me as his number 9 and I have absolutely no problem with playing in that position. I scored several goals when I played in that position with Milan. I’m ready to play some of my best football here.”

Since his first appearance for Brazil in 2008, Alexandre Pato has featured in only 11 matches. He also has 4 goals to his name.
