The Citizens return to action in the Premier League and will be looking to follow up on their 3-1 win over Chelsea by beating the Seagulls. Here’s our preview of Man City vs Brighton.

Man City vs Brighton – Preview

Man City are set to resume their Premier League campaign after taking more than a week's break from the English top-flight to play back-to-back cup games – one in the Carabao Cup and another in the FA Cup. Wednesday will see Guardiola's men take on Brighton in Matchweek 18, with the Etihad Stadium set to be the venue for this 1:00 PM ET kick-off.

The Citizens head into this fixture on the back of excellent form, having won their last three games in the league after disappointing back-to-back draws against Man Utd and West Brom. Their most recent fixture in the EPL was their trip to Chelsea which they won courtesy of a convincing 3-1 scoreline.

That victory lifted the club to sixth in the table, which might seem poor at first glance. However, it should be noted that they now boast 29 points after 15 games. Man United, who are now top of the table, have racked up 36 points from 17 matches, which means should Man City win their two games in hand, De Bruyne and Co. would move within a point of the league leaders – they'd also leapfrog second-placed Liverpool (33 points).

Since that triumph at Chelsea, City have gone on to beat Man United in the Carabao Cup semis – they've now booked a showdown with Spurs in the final – and have brushed aside Birmingham 3-0 in the FA Cup 3rd round. The clash vs Brighton should be a trickier test than that FA Cup but this promises to be yet another straight-forward game for Guardiola's men.

That is because the Seagulls are one of many Premier League sides battling relegation. With only 14 points from 17 games, Potter's side find themselves in 17th, only three points above the danger zone. The visitors are winless in their last eight league games but have lost only three of those matches. Will they end their horrible run at the Etihad Stadium? Tune in to find out!

Team news

Man City: The home side are without the services of Sergio Aguero after he came in close contact with someone who contracted COVID-19. Furthermore, Pep will be without Nathan Ake and Aymeric Laporte but the promising Stones-Dias partnership will soften the blow of their absence. Sterling looks to be fit for this game – whether he starts is a separate question – while Ederson could return to the lineup.

Brighton: Highly-rated midfielder Yves Bissouma is suspended for this game after picking up a fifth booking in the 3-3 draw vs Wolves. Meanwhile, Alireza Jahanbakhsh is facing a race against the clock to be fit after picking up an injury over the weekend. Adam Lallana, Danny Welbeck, Aaron Connolly, and Tariq Lamptey all remain sidelined.
