The first game for these teams after the coronavirus pause left a few talking points for the blue and white side's fans.

Football is back in Germany, and even if this was not the best game to go back to business for Schalke 04, they managed to set a new record in a regular season game.

The first half of the game ended with two goals for Borussia Dortmund, and coach David Wagner tried to shake things up with a couple of changes at the break. When the match resumed, Dortmund scored two more goals and Wagner decided to become the first manager in history to send more than the three regular substitutes into a game.

As you may know, FIFA allowed five substitutions in all games for the rest of the year, and Wagner tried to shift the tide by using all of his substitutes. Nevertheless, Dortmund did not hold back and prevailed despite facing the first team that uses five subs in a regular season clash.

These were the five substitutions used by David Wagner:

  • Jean-Clair Todibo (out) - Guido Burgstaller (in) at halftime

  • Benito Raman (out) - Rabbi Matondo (in) at halftime

  • Suat Serdar (out) - Alessandro Schoepf (in) after 73 minutes

  • Daniel Caligiuri (out) - Juan Miranda (in) after 76 minutes

  • Jonjoe Kenny (out) - Timo Becker (in) after 87 minutes
