Manchester United star Paul Pogba has come clean with his reason for wearing a Juventus shirt during a personal training session while in self-isolation. The 27-year-old Frenchman risked the anger of fans of his current club by sharing a video of him putting in the work at home while donning the jersey of his former club.
Paul Pogba, despite subsequently giving his reasons, sparked transfer rumors suggesting that a return to Turin may well be in the pipeline by wearing a Juventus shirt to train. In the video on the player's Instagram page, he was seen performing a number of drills and was joined by fellow teammate Victor Lindelof. While the latter sported a Sampdoria jersey belonging to fellow Swedish international Albin Ekdal, his host wore the club jersey of compatriot Blaise Matuidi.
The scenario did not exactly sit well among the Manchester United fanbase owning to the fact that Pogba and his controversial agent Mino Raiola have been pushing for an exit in recent times. Among the potential destinations include Real Madrid and his old club Juventus. Nevertheless, the World Cup winner moved swiftly to explain that the reason why he opted to wear the jersey of the Old Ladies was to show solidarity towards Blaise Matuidi, who was recently diagnosed with coronavirus (COVID-19).
Below is the training video featuring Pogba and Lindelof:
Prior to the suspension of the Premier League amid the coronavirus outbreak, Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hinted at Pogba's imminent return. Having made significant progress in his recovery, the player could be in contention for his first start for the Red Devils since December, should the league resume on April 2.
As per the Daily Mail, the World Cup winner could also commit his future to the club in a sensation U-turn despite his agent recently asserting that he would not mind going back to Juventus. The English publication claims that player's decision will depend on whether Manchester United gets Champions League football or not.
