The intense rivalry between Real Madrid and Barcelona has reached new standards as Los Blancos have decided to ban all Shakira songs from playing at the Bernabeu.
The news, which has just come in through Spanish media AS and Marca, coincidentally follows confirmation of Shakira’s romantic relationship with Barcelona’s Gerard Pique. The pair had long been rumoured to be dating each other and issues have been cleared recently with the couple posting explicit pictures of them together.

On Wednesday, the news of Shakira and Gerard Pique’s link made the headlines again as the 34-year-old Waka Waka singer described the Barcelona defender as her “sunshine” on social network site Twitter. It now appears as a strong possibility that the union between Shakira and Pique is the reason behind Real Madrid’s new rule of banning songs by the Colombian artist from being played at the Santiago Bernabeu.

A remarkable point, however, is that Shakira ranks among Real Madrid’s many celebrity fans. She is believed to be a fan of the Spanish giants and this public idea can be supported by the fact that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez presented Shakira with a jersey in the past.

In other news related to the rivalry that exists between Real Madrid and Barcelona, Blaugrana president Sandro Rosell issued a provoking statement on Thursday ahead of the Copa del Rey final. When asked about his expectations, the Barcelona man told the press:

“I predict a 5-0 result. This way, we won’t lose our custom.”

Barcelona and Real Madrid will meet twice in the space of 3 days later in April - in La Liga and in the Cup.
