Inter will hope to maintain their lead in Serie A as they travel to face Napoli in their first match of 2020.

Preview: Napoli vs Inter

Napoli opted to sack Carlo Ancelotti and bring in Gennaro Gattuso in a desperate bid to turn their fortunes around, and it's very interesting to note that the last time the two sides met, the Partenopei cruised to a very comfortable 4-1 win at the Stadio San Paolo. This time around, however, Inter are a much stronger side and it's very clear that Antonio Conte's team are the clear favourites to pick up all three points against a Napoli side who have lost their way. To make matters worse, the Partenopei come into this game without two of their star players - Dries Mertens and Kalidou Koulibaly - due to injury and although Napoli ended their poor run of form with a 2-1 win over Sassuolo to wrap up 2019, that game was actually decided by an own goal from their opponents to give them a much needed three points.

Inter, meanwhile, have been quite formidable all season and are looking like a team who can fully challenge Juventus for the Scudetto this term. They will be eager for revenge following their loss at this same ground in May 2019 and will want to take advantage of Napoli's indifferent form while making sure that they don't let Juventus out of their grasp as we head into the second half of the 2019/2020 Serie A season. Although they have historically struggled at this ground - with no wins at the Stadio San Paolo since October 1997 - this could finally be the time they end their frustrating hoodoo and ensure they kick off 2020 on top of the league table.

Team news: Napoli vs Inter

Napoli: The hosts are dealing with a whole slew of absences due to injury, with star players Kalidou Koulibaly and Dries Mertens being the biggest absentees for Gennaro Gattuso's side. Other players not available include Nikola Maksimovic (suspension), Kevin Malcuit, Faouzi Ghoulam, and Lorenzo Tonelli, while Fabian Ruiz is a major doubt.

Inter: Notably, Alexis Sanchez is finally back in the fold after missing months due to injury, but he will likely only make the bench for this fixture. Only Kwadwo Asamoah and Danilo D'Ambrosio will miss this game as a result of injuries.
