Solskjaer compares Greenwood to CR7 after teenager’s stunner vs Newcastle

Ole even hinted that the teenager exceeds the five-time Ballon d'Or winner in one aspect.

After witnessing Mason Greenwood’s stunning goal against Newcastle, many were quick to sing the Man United youngster’s praises. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was one of them, drawing comparisons between the teenager and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Greenwood started Thursday’s clash with Newcastle but the home side found themselves trailing the Magpies 1-0. Fortunately, goals from Martial and the Red Devils’ in-form teenager turned things around, with Rashford adding a third and Anthony completing his brace to secure a 4-1 victory.

However, it was Mason’s goal that everyone was talking about. After a mistake from Newcastle in their build-up, the English youngster scored a left-footed screamer which had everyone raving.

Ole hailed the youngster’s ability to score with both feet, likening him to Cristiano in that aspect. The Old Trafford boss even argued that Greenwood exceeds the legendary five-time Ballon d’Or winner in one aspect.

"There are not too many I can remember like him who has every single technique. He's not just 50-50 with both feet but probably 60-60!" Solskjaer said in a press conference for their upcoming trip to Burnley.

"Cristiano can score just as many with his left and they are proper strikes. But Mason can curl the ball with both feet, he is an exceptional finisher."

Ole added: "He has got the lot. He's young and has got a lot to learn, he knows that. He needs to head the ball like Marcus Rashford can.

"I don't think we are going to see the best of Mason for a couple of years. But I can remember when I was 18 but I was nowhere near the level playing at he was."

That thunderous effort against Newcastle took the 18-year-old’s tally this season to eight goals. Only Rashford has scored more goals in a Man United jersey this season than Greenwood and this is despite the teenager starting only two Premier League games. Expect him to be in Ole’s lineup for the trip to Turf Moor.
