Ajax have been one of this season's surprise packages. Will they stage another major upset as they take on Serie A heavyweights Juventus? Live Soccer TV's match preview provides match facts, team news, and global broadcast listings for Ajax vs Juventus.

How they got to this juncture: Ajax vs Juventus

Ajax arguably have been one of the biggest surprises so far of this season's Champions League. For starters, of all the quarter-finalists, Erik ten Hag's side have had the longest journey to get to this juncture. After finishing second in the Eredivisie last term, they began their European campaign in the second qualifying round against Austrian Bundesliga side Sturm Graz on July 25th, and after beating them 5-1 on aggregate, it was off to another two-legged play-off versus Belgium's Standard Liege.

Despite drawing the first leg 2-2, Ajax prevailed 3-0 on home turf to set up a clash against Eastern European outfit Dynamo Kiev, winning that two-part series 3-1 on aggregate. Thus, by the time it came to playing in the group stages, Ajax had already featured in six games, yet despite facing German giants Bayern Munich both home and away, the ambitious Dutch side nicked points in two draws (1-1 and 3-3) and finished second in their group, comfortably ahead of serial Primeira Liga winners Benfica.

Real Madrid fans, of course, were happy to get Ajax in the round of 16, as many figured that their side had "lucked out" in the draw and would secure their spot in the next round. Their already sky-high confidence went up a few more notches after the reigning Champions League holders picked up a 2-1 away win in the first leg, but they were served a harsh dish of humble pie on their own home turf in Madrid.

A stunning performance from Ajax earned the visitors a deserved 4-1 win (5-3 on aggregate), sent Los Blancos packing and ensured that the Champions League will have a new winner for the first time in three seasons. Next up in their sights are Juventus, who also had to come from behind to earn a ticket to the quarter-finals, and La Vecchia Signora's fans certainly will not be underestimating their upcoming hosts.

Unlike Ajax, Juventus entered the Champions League right at the group stage point, so didn't have to deal with added fatigue at the start of this competition. However, Massimiliano Allegri's men suffered some wobbles midway, as they lost 2-1 to Manchester United - making it their first home defeat across all competitions - before suffering a shock reversal against Swiss debutants Young Boys. Nonetheless, it was still enough for the Bianconeri to finish top of their group, two points ahead of the Red Devils, and they were then paired with Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid in a mouth-watering round of 16 clash.

Despite losing the first leg 2-0, a brilliant performance from - who else - Cristiano Ronaldo was enough to overturn the deficit and ensure the Turin giants progressed 3-2 on aggregate, with the 34-year-old superstar stepping up and showing why he's one of the best in the business with a hat-trick.

Current form: Ajax vs Juventus

Juventus come into this game having won their last three Serie A games following a surprise 2-0 defeat to Genoa on March 17th. With Napoli slipping up yet again, La Vecchia Signora are virtually already the champions of Italy thanks to a 20 point lead at the top of the Serie A table, and having come from behind to beat AC Milan 2-1 over the weekend, will hope to use some of that positive momentum as they take on an Ajax side in excellent form.

Ajax also picked up a win over the weekend, cruising to a comfortable 4-1 win over Willem II on Saturday which has helped them back on top of the league table. They have lost just one of their last ten games across all competitions and will be looking to overcome their frustrating hoodoo against Juventus when they take on a very familiar foe on Wedneday evening.

Other absentees include German midfielder Emre Can, Uruguayan defender Martin Cáceres, and Colombian attacker Juan Cuadrado.

In addition, fellow veteran Andrea Barzagli is still a major doubt as he has still not fully recovered from a calf injury, and speedy attacker Douglas Costa is another not expected to feature as he continues his own recovery from a thigh strain.
