Expert panel to break down matchups for the world’s biggest sporting event, Friday, Dec. 4

On Friday, Dec. 4, the eyes of the sporting world will be on South Africa for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa final draw, which will determine tournament opponents and match locations for the world’s top 32 teams. Canadians won’t miss a minute of the drama, as CBC Television will broadcast the event, live from Cape Town’s International Convention Centre, at 12:30 p.m. ET. CBCSports.ca/fifaworldcup will stream the international feed live, starting at 12 noon E.T., as well as the CBC Television feed, including the panel discussion, beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET.

CBC’s coverage will capture all the excitement surrounding the event, including South Africa’s most acclaimed performers participating in the celebration. Grammy award-winning Soweto Gospel Choir, Beninoise singer-songwriter Angelique Kidjo and one of South Africa’s greatest music exports, Johnny Clegg, will provide star-studded entertainment to the draw.

Following the draw, the CBC Soccer panel will discuss the matchups and get reactions from around South Africa.

Scott Russell will host the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa panel along with CBC soccer experts, play-by-play man Nigel Reed and analyst Jason DeVos. In addition to their work on MLS on CBC, Reed and DeVos teamed up for CBC’s soccer coverage at the 2008 Olympic Games. Reed was also an analyst and reporter for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, and DeVos covered the 2002 FIFA World Cup on CBC broadcasts.
