Real Madrid included Mateo Kovacic as part of the deal, with the Croatian midfielder joining Chelsea on a season-long loan.

At long last, Thibaut Courtois will join Real Madrid.

The Belgian footballer has been officially announced as Los Blancos' new goalkeeper via a press release issued in the team's website, following his reluctance to join the Blues' pre-season camp last Monday.

The player's transfer will end months of speculation, and will work as a charm for Chelsea, who were keen on cashing in on the goalie, who's contract with the club ran out by the end of this season.

"Real Madrid C.F. and Chelsea F.C. have agreed the transfer of Thibaut Courtois, who has signed for the club for the next six seasons. After the medical that will take place tomorrow, Thursday 9 August, the player will be presented at 1pm in the presidential box at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium. Subsequently, Courtois will go out on the pitch at the Santiago Bernabéu for the first time wearing the Real Madrid C.F. jersey and will speak to the media in the press room," the press release issued by Real Madrid states.

The document doesn't reveal the amount paid by Real Madrid to sign the player away from Chelsea, although earlier reports claimed that Courtois would be joining Los Blancos on a $40 million transfer.

Courtois will become the club's new shot-stopper in a deal that saw Mateo Kovacic joining the Blues on a season-long loan.

The team's official Twitter feed welcomed Courtois as soon as the announcement was made.

This will be Courtois' second La Liga team, following his two-year loan with Atlético. He arrives to the Spanish capital after leading the Belgian National Team to their best World Cup performance of all time. Added to that, he was named as the Best goalkeeper of the competition.
