The deal had been worked out between Spanish lawyers and CR7's attorneys, but it was sanctioned today by the Spanish revenue service.

At long last, Cristiano Ronaldo's battle with the Spanish IRS is over.

The Portuguese ace finally struck a deal with the country's tax authorities, which will force him to pay them a $22M fine (over €19M) after pleading guilty of four charges of tax evasion from 2011 to 2014. Cristiano Ronaldo will also be sentenced to serve two years in prison, but Spanish legislation will overlook that penalty, since the Portuguese striker is being considered as a first-time offender.

The deal could have been approved earlier this month, but the Spanish IRS authorities changed from the time the deal was proposed to the moment where it was approved, following the recent changes in Spanish government.

Cristiano Ronaldo is scheduled to appear in front of the Spanish judge trying this case before the beginning of the Serie A season.
