Barcelona's all-time top scorer went on to admit he will not play for another European side if he ever leaves Los Blaugranas

Lionel Messi's stint at Barcelona could last forever, and if he decided to call it quits at one point, he'd love to play for his boyhood club.

Speaking in an interview with Argentine TV show "Pasión por el fútbol," the superstar admitted that he would be keen on ending his career at Newell's Old Boys if everything falls into place.

"Every day I have a clearer picture: Barcelona will be the only European team I'll play for. I've always said that playing in the Argentine league is a dream of mine, and I don't know if I'll be able to do it, but that's my plan. I'd like to live that for six months at least, and I'd choose to play for Newell's," Messi stated.

Speaking about Los Blaugranas, Messi referred to Iniesta's departure as one of the hardest moments he'll ever live.

"He'll keep playing, but not being able to have him around will create a huge void. He will keep on playing, but not having him around or being able to play with him will be hard. He won't be easy to replace," Messi added.

Messi shares views on Argentina's options to win the 2018 World Cup

With such a complicated Qualifying stage, Messi knows Argentina can't be considered as one of the favorites to win the title in Russia. Even so, "La Pulga" still believes in this squad's options to shock the world.

"We can't go around saying that we're the best of the bunch, because that's not the case. We're working hard, and we're having great training sessions, but we have to take things step by step. I have faith in what this group can do," Messi analyzed.

Before the interview came to an end, Messi looked back at the chance of playing with Spain's National Team, and how some of his friends mocked him for choosing to play for Argentina instead.

"The other day I was talking to a friend who told me: 'See? if you had chosen to play for Spain, you'd be World Champion by now'. But that thought never crossed my mind. It wouldn't have been the same, and quite frankly, winning that tournament for Argentina has to be something unique," Messi concluded.
