The sweeper keeper has been on the sidelines since September.

Manuel Neuer has taken a huge step towards being fully fit for the upcoming World Cup. The German shot-stopper has spent a huge portion of the 2017/18 season on the sidelines but has been included in Bayern Munich’s squad for the DFB Pokal final.

The game will be this Saturday and it will see the Bundesliga champion take on Eintracht Frankfurt for a chance to win the league and cup double. Neuer is unlikely to start in the Olympiastadion tie but seeing his name in the squad will be a huge relief, nonetheless.

The last time the die Mannschaft custodian played a game was in September. A hairline fracture in his left foot that he picked up in training has kept him away from the pitch and cast his World Cup hopes under doubt.

The 32-year-old took part in full training this week on the road to full recovery. Joachim Low will only be pleased by the Bayern Munich star’s progress, as the clock draws closer to kick-off in Russia.

Neuer was one of four goalkeepers chosen for the preliminary list. The defending champion is ready to hand the sweeper keeper every opportunity to prove his fitness before the final squad is named.

As for Saturday’s DFB Pokal final, Heynckes will be without a few key players. The likes of Jerome Boateng (thigh), Arturo Vidal (knee) and Arjen Robben (groin) will miss the game but Thomas Muller has recovered from a stomach bug.
