Match Facts

  • Juventus are on a 23-match (W14 D9) unbeaten home run in UEFA competition, dating back to a 2-0 reverse against FC Bayern München in April 2013
  • The Bianconeri, however have lost their last two European matches (4-1 to Real Madrid in last season's final and 3-0 to Barcelona on MD1)
  • They haven't lost three European fixtures in a row since the 1993/1994 season
  • Juve's record at home to Greek clubs is W9 D1 L1
  • Their only loss was in December 1999 (2-1 to Olympiakos)
  • Interestingly, they also beat Olympiakos 7-0 in December 2003 in Turin
  • That, to date is their joint-best European result (and Olympiakos's worst ever European loss)
  • Olympiakos have an away record of W3 D1 L7 against Italian sides
  • Juventus have won six of the clubs' ten previous encounters, including all four fixtures played in Turin, whilst losing twice

Preview

Juventus come into this match having crushed Torino 4-0 during last weekend's Derby della Mole. Despite boasting a 100 per cent winning record in Serie A, La Vecchia Signora's Champions League campaign hasn't started off on the right footing, and they are currently bottom of their quartet after losing 3-0 to Barcelona on matchday one. However, Massimiliano Allegri's side were missing several key players, including Giorgio Chiellini, Mario Mandzukic, and Sami Khedira all due to injury for that match, and it goes without saying that no one wants to travel to Camp Nou with a weakened side.

In any case, Juve have a great chance to get back on track, as Olympiakos ended up losing their own derby clash with AEK Athens this weekend and sacked their coach, Besnik Hasi in lieu of Takis Lemonis. Whilst the hosts are still missing a few players, including new signing Benedikt Howedes and Mattia De Sciglio, Khedira has been included in the matchday squad, whilst both Chiellini and Mandzukic have returned to action. Furthermore, the Bianconeri's strong home record - with Bayern being the last side to have beaten them in Turin - could heavily tip this tie in their favour as they aim to rebound after a sluggish start to their Champions League tournament.
