Why BVB should fear Cristiano

Stats: Why BVB should fear Cristiano ahead of Real Madrid clash

September 26, 2017 By Ali M.
The Portuguese ace will look to help Los Blancos secure their first win in history at Signal Iduna Park.

On Tuesday, Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid clash in a highly-anticipated Champions League clash. The German giants have begun the well extremely well, and although Los Blancos have stumbled this term, they are the kings of this tournament.

Cristiano Ronaldo will be unleashed against Peter Bosz’s with the hopes of continuing his fine scoring form in this competition. His underwhelming start in La Liga upon returning from suspension should give him more drive.

And this is bad news for the hosts. Although Real Madrid have never won at Signal Iduna Park in six attempts, the 32-year-old’s stats are enough to send a chill down Dortmund’s spine.

The four-time Ballon d’Or winner has scored a staggering 23 goals in 19 clashes with clubs from the Bundesliga. Four of those 23 goals came against Tuesday’s opponents.

That is a goals-per-game tally of 1.2 – an impressive number given that some of Cristiano’s opponents included Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and Schalke.

Against the Bavarians, the Portuguese superstar has scored nine times. His most recent clash with the German champions, his sixth in total, saw him net an unforgettable – and controversial – hat-trick.

Seven of his 23 goals against German oppositions came against Schalke. Wolfsburg, who came close to knocking Zidane’s men out of the Champions League 2015/16 quarter-final, have conceded three against the former Man United winger.

Dortmund know they have a tough task. Stopping a goal-hungry Ronaldo is difficult, but the hosts might take inspiration from their home record.
