A full midweek slate of Championship action is headlined by Nottingham Forest taking on bitter rivals Derby County.
League leading Queens Park Rangers will travel to play 6th place Coventry City, and second place Cardiff City travel to face off against playoff contenders Watford.

In action featuring teams in the top six Leeds United play Portsmouth, Swansea City host Barnsley and Norwich City take on struggling Sheffield United.

At the bottom end of the table, last placed Preston North End take on fellow strugglers Middlesbrough. Scunthorpe United will travel to Burnley, and Crystal Palace will be looking for badly needed points when they travel to Bristol City.

With most teams having played as recently as Boxing Day, managers of many teams will be rotating their lineups to keep fresh legs in the team and rest some players with minor knocks.

The game between Doncaster Rovers and Ipswich Town has been postponed due to a frozen pitch at the Keepmoat Stadium.
 

Queens Park Rangers will be defending a four point lead at the top of the Championship when they travel to face 6th place Coventry City. Coventry are playing their third consecutive match against a team in the top five.





Coventry have no fresh injuries, but after playing as recently as Boxing Day Aidy Boothroyd could make changes. Clive Platt and Freddy Eastwood are fringe players who could be in line for a start.





Clint Hill will be allowed to play for QPR despite his red card last time out. The Hoops have appealed the decision and will find out the result on Thursday. Rob Hulse is in contention to return to the starting lineup if Neil Warnock makes changes.



Norwich City will be looking to continue their promotion challenge when they play host to struggling Sheffield United. Norwich sit in 5th place having lost only one of their last eight games, while United are only four points above the relegation zone, and are the divisions lowest goal scorers.





Wes Hoolahan and Russell Martin are injury doubts for Norwich, while defender Leon Barnett is suspended.





Striker Richard Cresswell will return from suspension for the Blades, but Ryan France, Darius Henderson and Richard Wright are all sidelined with injury.



Preston North End will be hoping to extend a three game unbeaten run when they play host to fellow strugglers Middlesbrough in an important relegation clash. Preston are bottom of the table, but only two points behind Middlesbrough, who sit above the relegation zone on goal difference only.





Manchester United loanee Josh King is fit to start for Preston, while former Boro defender Sean St Ledger is likely to remain on the bench.





Midfielder Nicky Bailey is an injury doubt for Boro with a groin problem. Stephen McManus, Willo Flood and Rhys Williams are all long term absentees for the Teessiders.






Swansea City will be looking to bounce back from a Boxing Day defeat and continue their promotion challenge when they play host to Barnsley. A Boxing Day defeat at the hands of Burnley ended a five game unbeaten run for Barnsley.





Swansea defender Alan Tate will be available after the club appealed his red card in the 4-0 defeat by Queens Park Rangers. Brendan Rodgers could make changes to his starting lineup, with Mark Gower and Lloyd Dyer possibly in line for a recall.





Barnsley defender Matt Hill is hoping to recover from a foot injury in time to play. Garry O’Connor will be unavailable, as his loan from Birmingham City has ended and his permanent signing does not take effect until the transfer window opens in January.



Second placed Cardiff City revived their promotion push with a Boxing Day win and will travel to face playoff contenders Watford. Watford are unbeaten in four games, and will be looking for a win that closes the four point gap between themselves and the playoff spots.





Stephen McGinn is out with a fractured cheekbone for Watford, and will be replaced by Josh Walker. Teenager Piero Mingoia should be fit to return from a thigh injury.





Cardiff defender lasted 66 minutes on his Boxing Day debut, and his fitness will be assessed ahead of kickoff for the Bluebirds.



Millwall will play host to Leicester City, with both teams level on points. Both teams will be looking for a win that closes the five point gap between them and the playoff zone. Millwall will be looking to extend a five game unbeaten run, while Leicester will be looking for their first away win under Sven Goran Eriksson.





Millwall will be without central defenders Danny Shittu and Paul Robinson, who are both suffering from hamstring injuries. Neil Harris is out with a back problem, while fellow striker Kevin Lisbie should be fit to return.





Miguel Vitor is doubtful for Leicester with a groin problem, while West Bromwich Albion loanee Roman Bednar could be fit to return.



Crystal Palace will be looking to climb out of the bottom three when they travel to face a Bristol City side who can be pulled back into the mire if they are beaten here. Bristol will be looking to avoid their third straight defeat, while Palace will be looking to end a three game winless skid.





Bristol manager Keith Millen is expected to make changes after a disappointing 4-1 defeat on Boxing Day. However, Millen’s options are limited on the personnel front. Jamie McAllister, Louis Carey and Liam Fontaine are injured, while striker Nicky Maynard remains a long term absentee.





Palace forward Pablo Conago is doubtful with a hamstring injury, while Alex Marrow will have a late fitness test to assess an ankle problem.



Promotion chasing Leeds United will be looking to extend their 10 game unbeaten streak when they play host to Portsmouth. Pompey are themselves on a three game unbeaten streak and have climbed away from the relegation battle.





Leeds manager Simon Grayson will likely make some changes after telling BBC Sport his team had a “number of bumps and bruises” after the Boxing Day draw with Leicester. Billy Paynter, Amdy Faye and Ross McCormack are all players who could enter the starting lineup if Grayson makes changes to his starting lineup.





Portsmouth will be boosted by the return of Greg Halford from suspension. Manager Steve Cotterill is still forbidden from selecting Michael Brown and Richard Hughes. The pair have contract clauses that entitle them to a new deal if they play one more game for the club.



Burnley will be looking to continue their playoff challenge as they play host to relegation threatened Scunthorpe United. Burnley are only two points outside the top six, while Scunthorpe need points to escape the bottom three.





Lee Grant looks set to continue in goal for Burnley, a fact that has led to Danish goalkeeper Brian Jensen handing in a recent transfer request. Defender Danny Fox has recovered from injury for the Clarets, and striker Chris Iwelumo could also return to the team.





Scunthorpe are looking to end a miserable run of five straight defeats, and will be boosted by the return of defender David Mirfin. Josh Wright, Michael O’Connor and Chris Dagnall have all recovered from a virus and could play.





The Iron will be without Michael Raynes, Jim McNulty and Niall Canavan who are all sidelined with injury.



Hull City and Reading will face each other at the KC Stadium, with both teams looking to extend seven game unbeaten streaks. Hull will be taking on a Reading team who are four points ahead of the Tigers, and only one point outside of the playoff zone.





Hull will be without veteran midfielder Kevin Kilbane, who suffered a head injury in the Boxing Day victory at Sheffield United. Daniel Ayala has returned to Liverpool after his loan spell was cut short with injury.





Reading could be boosted by the return of Captain Ivar Ingimarsson from a hamstring injury. Shane Long should play despite currently suffering with a bout of the flu.



Derby County are currently enduring a four game losing streak, and will receive little sympathy when they travel to the City Ground to take on bitter rivals Nottingham Forest. The two teams are currently tied on points, and will be looking for points to reduce the four point gap between themselves and the playoff spots.





Forest Captain Paul McKenna could make his return from a groin injury, while manager Billy Davies could make changes to freshen up his team during a hectic festive period. Chris Cohen, Gareth McCleary and Nathan Tyson could all start for Forest.





Derby will be without suspended Captain Robbie Savage, with James Bailey being the likely replacement. Dean Leacock is doubtful with a groin problem, while Gareth Roberts and Russell Anderson are ruled out.
