Rankings

Here's how things look in the group ahead of the match

A crucial must win game for the United States

The top three sides gain an automatic ticket to next year's World Cup. As things stand, CONCACAF will be represented by the United States, Costa Rica, and Mexico, whilst Panama will have to try their luck in an inter-continental play-off against a team from Asia. However, as the table above indicates, the Stars and Stripes can't rest comfortably just yet. A loss or draw for them, coupled with a win for Panama, who are taking on Mexico, will make things a lot more trickier for Bruce Arena's side.

To that end, Arena, who guided the Yanks to glory in this year's Gold Cup, has named a very strong side for the two upcoming World Cup qualifiers. In his 26-man squad, he's included names like Tim Howard, Clint Dempsey, Christian Pulisic, Michael Bradley, Jozy Altidore, Bobby Wood, and Darlington Nagbe.

Meanwhile, Costa Rica will have none other than Real Madrid star Keylor Navas in between the posts, and pretty much everyone knows how well he's done since making his big move to the LaLiga giants a few years ago. However, they're missing another key player: Joel Campbell. Whilst he struggled to make inroads at Arsenal, there's no doubting his influence on his national side. Unfortunately, he ended up with a knee injury during this summer's Gold Cup and as such, will be unable to feature in this match.

Costa Rica will also be gunning for revenge after losing 2-0 in the semi-finals. Who will come out on top in this crunch fixture on Friday?
