Rankings & Preview

Here's how Germany and Cameroon compare ahead of Sunday's game

Germany

Die Mannschaft have fielded a very different side so far, with stars like Toni Kroos, Thomas Muller, Manuel Neuer, Mats Hummels, and Mesut Ozil being among those not even joining the squad in Russia. That being said, Joachim Low has clearly decided to use this tournament to test out some new faces as he seeks to build his strongest team for the 2018 World Cup.

Despite that, Germany have been pretty solid. They are not immune to their defensive problems, as was evidenced in the five goal thriller between themselves and Australia and then in a 1-1 draw with Chile. Nonetheless, they have still managed to remain unbeaten and are expected to have the upper hand when they take on Cameroon.

Cameroon

Meanwhile, despite winning the AFCON, Hugo Broos' side have been far from impressive. Some players, namely Vincent Aboubakar, have been quite guilty of missing some golden opportunities, especially during a 1-1 draw with Australia. Cameroon were actually the better side, especially in the second half, but their profligacy cost them dearly and they now sit bottom of the table. They have never beaten Germany in three prior attempts, and will face a daunting task to overthrow the world champions as they hope to join Mexico and Portugal in the final four.
