The Spanish side has an interesting statistic to beat if they want to win a 12th UEFA Champions League title.

The bond between Jose Mourinho and Real Madrid will never be broken, as some of the team's finest footballers arrived or played for the Portuguese boss during his three years at the helm. This time, Real Madrid will try to match something that only Mourinho's Inter has been capable of doing in the tournament's 10 most recent seasons.

Usually, teams that win their respective groups have a better draw for the KO stage. This season wasn't as easy as expected for Los Blancos, as Zidane's crew ended their performance in Group F in second place. While most teams that have managed to win the UCL title in the past ten years also won their groups to begin with, there's an exception Real Madrid can relate to: Jose Mourinho's Inter Milan.

The neroazzurri side coached by The Special One ended their group as runner up behind Barcelona. Eventually, both sides would go on to face each other in the semi-finals, where Mourinho's men would prevail against the heavily favoured Blaugrana side, in what will be remembered for the incident with the sprinklers as Mourinho ran into the pitch.

All other teams winning the Champions League since the 2010 season have won their groups. If Los Blancos win on Saturday evening, they will also join Borussia Dortmund (1996-97), Manchester United (1998-99), Porto (2003-04) and Liverpool (2004-05) as the only teams in UCL history to win the title after ending their group as runners up.
