No room for errors as Real Madrid take on a potentially tricky Valencia

Real Madrid

Last weekend, viewers were treated to a true Clasico thriller. For Barcelona supporters, it was a day to celebrate, but for Real Madrid fans, it was a crushing defeat. Had Los Blancos won that tie, they just may have shut the door on the title race. However, Zinedine Zidane's side made amends by overpowering Deportivo to win 6-2 midweek, and now, in their first home game since the Clasico loss, Real Madrid will be eager to continue putting pressure on Barcelona as LaLiga's title race enters its final stages.

Zidane opted to go with a heavily rotated squad for the Deportivo game, with stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, and Keylor Navas being given a rest. All of these key players are expected to make their return for this game, whilst skipper Sergio Ramos, who was sent off during the Clasico defeat will be back from a ban. However, Gareth Bale and Pepe will both still be unavailable for this game due to injury.

Valencia

Meanwhile, Valencia languish in the bottom half of the table, and have failed to win their past three games. That being said, Los Che have proven to be a tricky customer for Real Madrid in the past. In fact, earlier this season, they defeated them 2-1 in the reverse fixture, and to date, are just one of three sides (the others being Barcelona and Sevilla) to have beaten the capital giants this campaign.

So far, Los Blancos have won just once out of their last six LaLiga ties with Valencia. Their sole win was 11 months ago, a 3-2 result in May 2016 at their home ground, and the visitors will certainly be hoping that their hosts will be somewhat distracted with their upcoming Champions League tie with Atletico Madrid next week as they aim to pick up a much-needed win.

However, Valencia are dealing with a bit of a selection headache, as both Joao Cancelo and Simone Zaza are out due to suspension, whilst Rodrigo Moreno and Aymen Abdennour are still not 100 per cent recovered from injury.
