Another thrilling encounter awaits - but is it fully advantage Monaco?

Monaco

140. That's the number of goals Monaco have scored across all competitions this season. Les Rouges-et-Blancs have truly been on fire, and are in contention to clinch at least three trophies this term, including the Ligue 1 title. However, they are tied on points with reigning champs PSG, and are only ahead on goal difference, meaning that any slip-ups between now and May could see the title slip out of their hands.

The closest Monaco have gotten to get their hands on the Champions League trophy was back in 2004, when they made it all the way to the final. Unfortunately, they were defeated by Portuguese outfit Porto, who were then under the leadership of Jose Mourinho. They then appeared the next season and made it to the round of 16 before disappearing out of the competition entirely.

Flash-forward a decade later, and they made a run to the quarter-finals. They are now just 90 minutes away from joining Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid in the semi-finals, but will have to be on their guard against a Dortmund side who still have a foot in the door. To complicate matters for Leonardo Jardim's side, they will be missing Djibril Sidibe due to injury and key midfielder Fabinho as a result of suspension.

Dortmund

Like Monaco, Borussia Dortmund come into this game having won their domestic fixture over the weekend. However, unlike Les Rouges-et-Blancs, die Schwarzgelben are not in contention for the domestic title, as Bayern still enjoy a massive lead over the chasing pack. In addition, Thomas Tuchel's side will have to overturn a 3-2 deficit from the first leg, but a goal or two in Monaco will see this whole tie turned on its head.

Marco Reus, who has missed most of the season due to injury, made his return over the weekend and scored the first of Dortmund's three goals against Eintracht Frankfurt and is set to feature in this tie later today. However, their away record is a major source of concern. Although they have lost just three out of their last 12 on the road since the prior season, they have failed to win their last two.

Given they were involved in a 12 (yes, 12!) goal thriller earlier this season against Polish champions Legia Warsaw, Dortmund are no strangers to high-scoring games. The first leg between them and Monaco saw a whopping five goals scored, and prior to that, they put four past Portuguese outfit Benfica sans reply. Expect plenty of goals in this fixture as this game could truly go down to the wire as both sides battle to join two La Liga sides and likely Juventus (or Barcelona, if they can overturn their 3-0 deficit) in the next round.
