Seattle Sounders suffers a 2-1 defeat to Vancouver Whitecaps thanks to Fredy Montero's heroics.

Former Seattle Sounders forward Fredy Montero scored a brace for Vancouver Whitecaps at the BC Place as the hosts beat the MLS Cup defending champions 2-1 on Friday April 14. The 29-year-old opened the scoring in the 65th minute and then added another in the 80th minute to as Vancouver rose to sixth place on the Western conference table with seven points.

Will Bruin scored the consolation goal for the visitors with less than a two minutes to go. The result saw Sounders drop to eighth after earning only six points from six games this season. 

Montero played for Sounders from 2009 to 2012, where he scored a total of 47 league goals in 85 appearances. He was then sent to Millonarios and Sporting CP on loan, before making his move to the Portuguese giants permanent. In 2016, he joined Chinese Super League outfit Tianjin TEDA in 2016, and was then sent to Vancouver Whitecaps on loan, where he has so far scored three goals in five appearances.
