And it wasn't the most obvious choice from the Argentine superstar.

Lionel Messi is one of the most decorated football players in recent history. The Barcelona superstar has won it all with the Catalan giants, and thus enjoys and envious trophy cabinet.

Unfortunately, the 29-year-old has not enjoyed a same level of success with his national side. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner famously led Argentine to three consecutive major finals – the World Cup, Copa America, and Copa America Centenario – but sadly lost all.

Messi has lifted one trophy with La Albiceleste, a title which he recently admitted to cherishing very much. La Pulga sat with Esquire magazine in Mexico to give an interview in which he named the trophy he most values in his career.

Leo made an odd choice, snubbing his Champions League and Club World Cup titles with the Catalan giants for his 2008 Olympics Gold Medal win in Beijing.

The Argentine also discussed his rocky relationship with the media back home who constantly bash their captain. He said (per Mundo Deportivo):

“The criticism I receive is not something I care about because I know about the things that happened. I understand the people who always want us to win and demand that we deliver a trophy.

“The Olympic gold in 2008 is the win that I value the most because it is a tournament that you may only play in once in your life and involves many athletes from different disciplines.”

Messi will be in action on Wednesday. The Barca ace returns from suspension for the Blaugrana in time to feature in their clash with Sevilla.
