The Argentinean midfielder shared his views about Messi's contract negotiations, which have become stalled for the past few months

Lionel Messi's reluctance to extend his contract with Barcelona has most fans worried about the Argentinean's future. But even if "La Pulga" decides to terminate his relationship with Los Blaugranas, one of his closest friends in the team denied the possibility of having to face the 5-time Ballon D'Or winner in other competitions.

Midfielder Javier Mascherano compared Messi's relationship with the club with that of a marriage, and hinted that, despite their "disagreements", the relationship between the Argentine superstar and Los Culés will continue for a long time.

"Messi's 'marriage' with Barcelona has had great moments, and there could be quite a few more left. I don't see why they should get 'divorced', since both of them have benefitted from their relationship. And even if that happens, I can't see Messi playing with another top-caliber team against Barcelona," Mascherano told Revista Barça.

The Argentine footballers have seen their friendship develop since "El Jefecito" arrived to Camp Nou a few years ago.

Mascherano didn't want to waste the opportunity to praise Messi, who he believes to be "the best ever", stating that Barcelona would suffer if he decides to leave the club.

"Leo is an indispensable player. Life can go on without the rest of us, but not without him. He's one of a kind, we're talking about the best player in the history of the game," Mascherano added.
