He may not have won the Ballon d'Or but Luis Suarez is undoubtedly the most lethal forward on the planet.

Barcelona forward Luis Saurez has been named the best goalscorer in 2016 by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics.  The announcement was made on Wednesday when he floored other contestants such Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Gonzalo Higuain, and the ever-green Cristiano Ronaldo.

Here is the complete ranking for the best strikers in 2016, and the number of goals they scored:

1 – Luis SUAREZ (FC Barcelona) - 40 goals

2 – Zlatan IBRAHIMOVIC (PSG/Man Utd) - 38 goals

3 – Gonzalo HIGUAIN (Napoli SSC) - 36 goals

4 – Cristiano RONALDO (Real Madrid CF) - 35 goals

5 – JONAS (SL Benfica)-  32 goals

6 – Eran ZAHAVI (Maccabi Tel Aviv) - 31 goals

7 – Robert LEWANDOWSKI (FC Bayern München) - 30 goals

8 – Vincent JANSSEN (AZ Alkmaar) - goals 27

8 –  Nemanja NIKOLIC ( Legia Varsovie ) - 27 goals

10 – Lionel MESSI (FC Barcelona) - 26 goals

10 – Islam SLIMANI ( Sporting Portugal) - 26 goals

10 – Luuk DE JONG (PSV Eindhoven)  - 26 goals

But surprisingly, despite being nominated for the Ballon d'Or, the Uruguayan did not win it this year, neither did he last year. He recently blasted the organizers of the prestigious award for not selecting him because he is not 'marketable' unlike his counterparts Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, who have shared the award between them since 2007 when Brazilian legend Kaka won it.
