Can Chelsea move closer to matching an all-time top record?

Crystal Palace

London Derbies have not been kind to Crystal Palace as of late. The Eagles have earned just five points out of a potential 30 in their past ten games against sides from the capital. That's the worst output of any London-based side (Chelsea, West Ham, Arsenal, Tottenham), and since beating Chelsea 1-0 back in August 2015, they have picked up just two points. Overall, their record in their past 10 London Derbies stands as W1-D2-L7.

Alan Pardew's men will be feeling quite aggrieved after the results from their last match, however. For most of the game, the Eagles thought they just may be able to hang on for a draw, until Manchester United grabbed a late winner through veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. It was an interesting match which saw some controversial calls, but ultimately, Crystal Palace, who have won just one out of their last five games, will have to forget that result as they hope to become the first team to beat Chelsea in nearly three months.

Of course, that will be much easier said than done. The Eagles are coming into this game with quite a few players absent due to injury. James Tomkins, Bakary Sako, Pape Soaure, Connor Wickham, Jonathan Benteke and Steve Mandanda are all on the treatment table, whilst Loic Remy is still not 100 per cent match fit and so likely will not feature against his former side.

Chelsea

To date, Chelsea have lost just one out of their last eight London Derbies, which was their 3-0 humiliation by Arsenal. That just so happens also to be the last defeat Antonio Conte's men have suffered this season. Although their last two wins were gritty 1-0 results against West Brom, and more recently, relegation candidates Sunderland, that will not matter much to Blues fans.

After last season's epic disaster, optimism is high once again for Chelsea supporters worldwide, and just as Conte was able to revive a once-struggling Juventus, the feeling is the Italian tactician will be able to work some of that same magic in London.

Eden Hazard, who missed out on the tie with Sunderland, may be rested yet again here. Should that happen, then Willian will again get a chance to feature from the start. It will also be very interesting to see if Cesc Fabregas again gets an opportunity to feature after scoring the game winner against the Black Cats. The ex-Arsenal and Barcelona man has found playing time drastically reduced and has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge during the upcoming January transfer window.

Should Chelsea win this game, it not just match an all-time club record of most consecutive wins (11). It will also mean that the Blues have defeated Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park six times, which is more defeats for the Eagles at home against any other Premier League opponent.
