Lionel Messi, despite being one of Argentina’s most idolized players in history, has a rocky relationship with the media back home. The 29-year-old has up his displays for La Albiceleste in recent years, leading them to three consecutive finals, but is accused by journalists of failing to deliver when most needed.
The Barca man silenced his critics with an excellent display in the 3-0 victory over Colombia, a match in which nothing short of a win was need, by scoring a brilliant free-kick and assisting the other two strikes.
La Pulga’s sister, Maria Sol, took the opportunity to attack one journalist in particular. That man was Martin Liberman, a pundit who has been critical of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner. Maria Sol wrote on Twitter: ““To Liberman, watch him on TV”.
Her tweet did not go unnoticed, as Liberman responded with a tad sexist remark. He said: “Maria Sol, I send you a kiss. I do not argue with women regarding football or anything else.”
