Leo looks to ensure his route out of Camp Nou when he decides to leave the Blaugrana.

Pinning down Lionel Messi is priority number one at Barcelona, and although the club are confident that their star striker will put pen to paper on a new deal, it isn’t without complications.

According to Diario Gol (as per AS), the Argentine has made a demand to his employers if they wish to see him sign an extension: insert a release clause.

The 29-year-old, whose current deal expires in 2018, has one reason for asking for a release clause, and that is he wants an assured route out of Camp Nou when he decides to leave.

Fear not, Blaugrana fans, as the claim states that La Pulga’s intention is to return to Newell’s Old Boys in order to retire at his boyhood club.

This – his desire to return and end his career at Newell’s – is no secret, having left the Argentine outfit for La Masia in 2001.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner still holds close ties with Rosario, his hometown and where Newell is based.

Leo, though, is not planning on quiting the Catalan giants anytime soon, as he knows he has many more years of top-level football.

However, when he makes the decision to usher in his retirement, Messi wishes nothing will hold him back from heading back home.
