Match facts

  • This will be the second straight Olympic Football tournament in which Brazil and Honduras face each other. Four years ago, Brazil struggled to eliminate Los Catrachos in a grueling quarter-final match. Mario Martinez & Roger Espinoza gave Honduras the lead twice, but a brace by Leandro Damiao & another goal by Neymar helped Brazil reach the semis.

  • These countries' senior squads have faced each other seven times. A Canarinha has won five of those games.

  • The last game between these teams took place one year ago. Brazil defeated the Central American team 1-0.

Team news

Brazil wants to become the first team in Olympic football history to reach the final without conceding any goals. After a dubious start with two goal-less draws, Neymar & Co. have managed to beat Denmark (4-0) and Colombia (2-0), with Barcelona's ace ending his goal scoring drought against Los Cafeteros last Saturday.

On the other hand, Honduras will try to become the second CONCACAF team to reach the top of the podium, following Mexico's win four years ago. Jorge Luis Pinto's team shocked South Korea thanks to Alberth Ellis' goal, and it wouldn't be surprising to watch this game last 120 minutes, considering the Central American's dominating defense.
