Premier League side Southampton has confirmed signing a Bayern Munich midfielder.

Bayern Munich midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has joined Premier League side Southampton on a five-year deal. The Bavarians decided to offload the 20-year-old midfielder after spending loan spells at Augsburg and Schalke 04. He is now set to make a permanent move to the St. Mary’s Stadium under new manager Claude Puel. The club released the following statement on their website moments after signing the deal:

''Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg from Bayern Munich, on a five-year contract.

''Højbjerg is an exciting young midfield player who the club has been watching carefully for many years, and he further strengthens an ambitious and talented group for the season ahead, both domestically and in Europe.''

Hojbjerg holds the record of being the youngest player to play for the Bayern Munich senior team when he made his debut for the German giants in 2013 at the age of 17. He has played for Denmark 17 times, and 30 times for Schalke during his loan spell. The youngster is expected to replace Victor Wanyama, who joined Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.

Hojbjerg will be a first-teamer at Saints - Rummenigge

He posted the following message on Instagram after signing for the Saints:
