Ivan Rakitic’s vacation home has been stoned by a group of angry Croatian supporters. Although the exact motive of the incident is yet to be revealed, it is believed that the fans were angry about Croatia’s exit from the European Championship in the last round of 16 against Portugal.
Vatreni were making their fifth appearance in the tournament in France but this year’s performance was not as good as their record in 1996 and 2008 when they reached the quarter-finals. In their last 16 match against Seleccao, Ricardo Quaresma’s extra-time goal was all that was needed to bundle Rakitic and co. out of the competition.
The Barcelona midfielder took to Instagram to confirm and condemn attack, whilst insisting that it would not dampen his family’s vacation mood. Here is the Instagram post with the caption: ‘’We enjoy our family holiday. No one can take away our smile.’’
