The 2010 World Cup winner and 2012 UEFA Euro champion with the Spanish National Team explained the nature of Casillas' discomfort with his staff.

The Golden Age of Spanish football seems to be coming to an end, and some of its main characters are not happy with the outcome.

Spanish coach Vicente del Bosque announced his decision to step down as La Roja's boss on July 15th, soon after he presents a report of what happened during the UEFA Euro 2016. During an interview with Cadena Ser's show "El Larguero", Del Bosque revealed a falling out with shot-stopper Iker Casillas, who got mad at the technical staff for choosing David De Gea as La Roja's goalkeeper.

"Casillas' behaviour towards us(the technical staff) was disappointing. He was always there for his team-mates, but he had no communication with us whatsoever. He was upset for not being handed the starting role, and maybe it's understandable, but his behaviour with the team's staff was out of line," Del Bosque revealed.

The debate about who should guard Spain's net started right after the 2014 World Cup. Casillas' form this season forced Del Bosque's hand, giving the starting nod to Man United's goalie.

Because of his actions, Del Bosque stated that he sent a personal message to all of his players, excluding Casillas.

"It's hard for me, because I've watched him grow. I know him since he was nine years old, and I supported him when Real Madrid fans jeered at him. His anger was directed at us, and I hope that in time, we can sit down and talk about it," the coach added.

Later in the interview, the former Real Madrid boss hinted that he couldn't justify his decision about giving De Gea the starting spot, since he would have to do the same with each and everyone of his players.

"Maybe we screwed up. I told them what they needed to know. You can't justify yourself, even if it's Casillas you're talking about. Maybe we didn't hit the nail on its head, maybe we should have acted differently to avoid this kind of problems," Del Bosque concluded.
