Cristiano Ronaldo believes he has been the best player in the world for the last 20 years.

Cristiano Ronaldo has made a controversial revelation that could for sure anger a section of Lionel Messi’s fans. For so long, there has been endless debate regarding the best footballer on the planet but Ronaldo believes he has an opinion about it.

According to the Real Madrid and Portugal star, he has been the best player in the world for the last 20 years. The 31-year-old winger was speaking during an interview with Italian magazine Undici, as reported by AS.Ronaldo appears on the cover of Undici magazinWhen asked about where he would rank himself in the list of the best players over the last 20 years, CR7 responded:

“Where would I rate myself amongst the top players of the last twenty years? Thinking positively, then I believe with what I’ve achieved, I’m the best of the lot.”

However, based on his comments, the major issue of concern is whether the former Manchester United player is better than the likes of Ronaldinho, Zinedine Zidane and Thierry Henry, who ruled the world of football in the past decade.

At that time, Ronaldo was still a young boy trying to establish himself at Old Trafford after switching from Sporting Lisbon to the Premier League giants. But to some extent, he could be excused for claiming he has been the best over the past 20 years considering the fact that he has won the Ballon d’Or six times, same as legendary footballers such as the late Johan Cruyff, Marco van Basten and Michel Platini.

On the other hand, his greatest rival in modern football, Lionel Messi, has won four Ballon d’Ors, hence making Ronaldo’s claims quite questionable and subject to further debate. The superstar is in France preparing for Portugal's opening match against Iceland in the Euro 2016 on June 14.
