With fallen Serie A giants AC Milan gearing up for their all-important clash with Juventus in the Coppa Italia final on Saturday, Marca have dropped a bombshell report about the Rossoneri and their president Silvio Berlusconi.
According to the Spanish news outlet, the Italian politician who owns the San Siro side gave the players a warning in a threatening speech this week: improve or else you won’t get paid!
The Milan owner is quoted as saying: "We can't continue to play this badly. The gentlemen who provide your wages by sponsoring the club told me while eating that if you continue to play like that they won't give us any more money...and then I won't pay you either. I won't pay you."
The 7-time Champions League winners are the third most successful club in the world, behind only Real Madrid and Al Ahly; however, they have not lifted a major title since 2011 when they beat rivals Inter to the Supercoppa Italiana.
Cristian Brocchi’s boys finished this campaign in a disappointing 7th spot, ending the season with a 3-1 defeat to Roma. Furthermore, Milan have not finished in the top four in Serie A since the 2012-13 campaign in which they secured a third place finish.
Furthermore, Marca write that Berlusconi didn’t stop there with his threats, as Italy’s former prime minister dared the players to take him to court, saying:
...And try to sue me. Do you know how long the legal process takes in Italy? Eight years."
Carlos Bacca and Co. will have a chance this weekend to finally end their silverware drought, as a win against the Scudetto holders will see the Rossoneri be crowned as Coppa Italia champions.
