The Portuguese player was subbed off during the halftime break against Deportivo, raising doubts about his fitness for the UEFA Champions League final.

Things could have gotten even worse for Real Madrid after not being able to leapfrog Barcelona and win La Liga.

During the game's halftime break, Zinedine Zidane decided to grant Cristiano Ronaldo some time to rest, even if there was still a chance to win the domestic title. Considering the Portuguese player has been struggling with his fitness lately, speculation filled the air regarding the reason why "Zizou" decided to send CR7 to the bench. Once the game concluded, Zidane calmed down the team's supporters and revealed what went on during the break.

"Cristiano left the game after picking up a hard knock to his foot. It's not that serious, he will have time to rest and hopefully be fit for our next game," Zidane said.

CR7 wasn't able to avoid a knock to his right foot, starting the alarms for Los Blancos ahead of the UCL final.

Losing La Liga's top honour shouldn't be cause for concern, according to Zidane. The French coach asked his players to focus on winning the UEFA Champions League title, since that will give them the chance to finish this season on a high note.

"We never stopped fighting for it. We should feel proud of ourselves despite not winning the title. Every player tried their best, and now, after a couple of days off, we'll return to training and start working on what's coming up in two weeks," Zidane added.
