Swansea City handed Chelsea their first league defeat under manager Hiddink.

Swansea City FC handed Premier League giants Chelsea FC their first league defeat under interim coach Guus Hiddink. The Dutch tactician took over from Jose Mourinho in December last year when the club was struggling to regain it's previous form that steered them to the league title with three games to spare.

Ironically, the Blues thumped the Swans 5-0 last season on their way to winning the league title but things were quite different when the two sides clashed on Saturday at the Liberty Stadium. Gylfi Sigurdsson’s strike in the first half was all that Swansea needed to register their first ever league victory over the West London club.

However, the visitors came into this match with major injury concerns. The likes of Gary Cahill, Willian, Loic Remy, Nemanja Matic and captain John Terry were both unavailable for the clash, something that gave the Swans a quite field day.

Following the results, Guus Hiddink’s side sit at the 10th position on the log with 44 points, while Swansea sit at the 13th spot with 40 points.

The loss came at a time when Chelsea owner Roman Abramovic had officially confirmed that indeed, Italian manager Antonio Conte was set to take over from Hiddink at the end of the season. Could this have led to a lapse in concentration for the Dutch tactician and his players? Such dip in form was also evident at Manchester City when the club officially announced the arrival of Pep Guardiola to take over from Manuel Pellegrini in the summer.
