Premier League giants Manchester City have been urged to fight for their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League fixture against Ukrainian outfit Dynamo Kiev.

Man City midfielder Fernandinho has told his teammates to fight for their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League when they welcome Dynamo Kiev at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday.

If they beat the Ukrainian outfit, this will be the first time The Citizens will feature in the quarter-finals of the European competition.  Manuel Pellegrini’s men come into this fixture with an added advantage, having won the first leg of the fixture 3-1 in Ukraine thanks to goals from Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure and David Silva.

Speaking to Manchester City’s official website, the Brazilian explained:

"Of course, this is the first time we have a chance to go forward to the quarterfinals,

"This is a big step for the club, for everyone here. This should give us more motivation to play very well on Tuesday."

Despite struggling domestically, the Sky Blues have impressed in the Champions League this season by securing crucial wins against equally-good sides such as Sevilla and Dynamo Kiev. But as a result of their goalless draw with Norwich City in their last Premier League fixture, the Manchester side have slim chances of winning the league, and they now need to shift their focus to a respectable finish at the European level.

Speaking about their league title-winning prospects, the 30-year-old added:

"We will see what happens with other results but it is tough to drop points like we did.

"We have nine [Premier League] games to play and even if you don't have chance to fight for the title, the most important thing now is to fight for the top four."

The hosts could miss the services of Kevin De Bruyne, Fabian Delph and Samir Nasri. Yaya Toure is also doubtful due to injury but could pass a late fitness test for the do-or-die tie.
