Christian Benteke secured a controversial late win for Liverpool against Crystal Palace.

Former Aston Villa man Christian Benteke scored a late winner for The Reds to hand them three crucial points against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Alan Pardew’s side opened the score sheet in the 49th minute of the game through Joseph Ledley but Roberto Firmino equalized in the second half to cancel the lead. In the dying minutes of the game, Christian Benteke went down in the box to earn Jurgen Klopp’s side a late penalty. He then stepped up and drove the ball to the bottom-right corner of the net consequently sending goalkeeper Alex McCarthy the wrong way.

However, several replays showed that there was actually no contact between the Belgian international and the Eagles defender but all in all, it was the three points that mattered most for the Merseyside club. The Reds are now sitting at the seventh place in the Premier League, six points off the top four slot currently occupied by Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Manchester City in descending order.
