Real Madrid's striker is trying to clear his name in order to be available to play for France in the 2016 European tournament.

Karim Benzema appeared in front of the court once more a couple of weeks ago, and according to an excerpt from the hearing held on January 28 published by Le Parisien, Real Madrid's striker admitted having lied to Mathieu Valbuena about watching a sex tape in which the French midfielder participated.

The French newspaper revealed that Benzema regretted not telling the truth to his Les Bleus team-mate, given that he was talking about something he never saw. In fact, Benzema told the court he only saw a screen capture of the video.

"I should've told him I'd never seen it. I made a fool out of myself. It was just like when you talk about a movie you have never seen. I never watched that video tape," Benzema told the judge.

The judge has forbidden any contact between Benzema and Valbuena until the end of this case, which had the striker banned from the French National Team.

Benzema also shared his thoughts on how Valbuena's attorneys have handled the case. Real Madrid's striker was baffled by a statement in which the midfielder stated "he was afraid since he met with Benzema".

"Someone that's living in fear doesn't go out on the pitch laughing with you. In fact, when we first discussed the topic, he walked away after saying 'thank you, bro". I don't know who influenced him to say this, but that version is far away from what really happened," Benzema added.

Benzema's absence from the National Team has been criticized by a number of former players, including his coach at Real Madrid, Zinedine Zidane. In order to participate in the European tournament, this case must be solved before June 3, marked as the deadline for teams to present their 30-man lists.
