The former Atletico Madrid man was the centre of discussion when he pushed Watford defender Craig Cathcart, before involving himself in yet another ugly incident with Juan Carlos Paredes. Although both Costa and Paredes were booked for the incident, the Chelsea man was not done yet.
As the two sides went into the tunnel, the frustrated 29-year-old was spotted showing the ''use your eyes’’ gesture to referee Mike Dean. Meanwhile, Chelsea manager came to Costa’s defense by accusing Juan Carlos Paredes of trying to get the Blues' forward booked against Watford.
Speaking at a post-match press conference, he said:
''It (the incident) was very clear, because we were very close. It was just 10 yards from our bench.’’
''Paredes punched Diego in his back. After that, they stumbled. Then Paredes brought his hands to his head and Diego was nowhere near his head.’’
''This is something we must not do. It's provocation to get someone (sent) off the pitch. Happily the referee and the assistant referee saw it.’’
He then added:
''There's a little touch and everyone's rolling around. It's just handbags. In Sunday League that wouldn't happen because you'd be laughed at. I don't like to see it, and we'll have a word with Paredes on our side.''
On the other hand, manager Quique Sanchez Flores, who was Costa’s boss at Atletico Madrid, had a word with the striker at the end of the heated fixture. Speaking about the incident, the Hornets’ boss said:
''Paredes resisted very well. He tried to play, he tried to defend very well. It's nothing new. I understand Costa because I coached Costa and every single play he wants to challenge them.’’
''Paredes was very hard, very strong also, but nothing happened. Nothing strange.''
Diego Costa has never played against us. He's either been injured or suspended. Now he's on a yellow card vs Watford with 45mins left..
