With the game 1-0 for the hosts, Toni Kroos sent a clinical through ball to James Rodriguez's feet inside the box, leading to a short pass for Karim Benzema's equalizer. The only problem with such skillful passing was that the Cokombian midfielder was in offside position before assisting Benzema.

Referee Martinez Munuera was clearly influential in the game's outcome, after failing to award a penalty for each team. Karim Benzema was brought down by Petros during the first half in what seemed to be suitable to be sanctioned, while Raphael Varane made the same mistake moments before the game concluded.
