It seems the rivalry between Real Madrid and Barcelona has risen to a whole new level.

On Sunday night, after Real Madrid thumped Sporting Gijon 5-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu, star forward Cristiano Ronaldo was asked by journalists whether it was tiring that the Barcelona duo of Dani Alves and Gerard Pique loved to talk about him.

In his response, he said:

''It is normal. Because whoever talks about Cris gets the cover page (of newspapers and magazines) the next day!’’

However, the bullish Alves did not take Ronaldo’s comments lightly. As a result, he posted on Twitter different crying-with-laughter emojis and added the words ''Buenos dias’’ meaning ‘’Good Morning.’’

He then added an image of the number of trophies he has won while playing for Barcelona. He was indirectly trying to mock his Real Madrid counterpart, who has not been as successful with Los Blancos as Alves has been with the Blaugrana since 2008.

The Brazilian has won a total of 21 trophies at the Camp Nou since arriving at the club 8 years ago, while five of the trophies were secured in 2015.

On the other hand, the former Man United man has won seven trophies since arriving at Real Madrid in the summer of 2009 from England. Unlike Alves, Ronaldo boasts of individual achievements such as scoring 240 goals in 326 appearances for the Spanish giants. However, when it comes to team success, the Brazilian seems more successful compared to Ronaldo, who has won only one La Liga title in six and a half years in Spain.
