The Blues can't seriously be contemplating a move for the Spurs flop, can they?

Reigning English Premier League champions Chelsea are currently short of striking options.

Despite a sluggish start to the 2015-16 season, Diego Costa is undergoing a resurgence as of late, scoring 4 goals in his last three games in all competitions since Guus Hiddink’s takeover.

Nonetheless, the Spaniard remains the Blues only firepower in front of goal, with Loic Remy currently injured and Radamel Falcao out of favor and near a Stamford Bridge exit.

This conundrum has given rise to some surprise transfer rumors linking the London giants with a former north London star striker turned flop.

According to The Times, Chelsea are plotting a bid to sign former Tottenham and Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor, who has been without a club since his contract with the Spurs was cancelled under mutual consent in September of last year.

The 31-year-old Togolese striker infamously fell out of favor with Mauricio Pochettino due to several reasons, one being his resistance towards the club’s training regime, before his time at White Hart Lane eventually came to an end.

Chelsea fans will most probably be not too pleased to hear that Adebayor has been identified as a possible target for their club, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

As written in the report, Chelsea will only hand Adebayor a short-term deal at the end of the month, and that’s if Abrahimovic’s side fail to land any of the major targets.

Guus Hiddink is reportedly favoring a move West Brom’s Saido Berahino, Atletico Madrid’s Jackson Martinez, and Leicester City star Jamie Vardy.

However, Chelsea’s chances of signing the latter of the three aforementioned strikers are slim, given that the English forward recently underwent surgery for a hamstring injury, though he has made a return to training and is thus in contention for Wednesday’s clash with Tottenham.

The Foxes boss Claudio Ranieri, however, has stated several times before that he has no intentions of selling neither Vardy nor breakout star Riyad Mahrez, as he plans to build the club even further next season.
