Fans around the world voted to select the best goal of the year. The winner beat Lionel Messi and Alessandro Florenzi in order to win the trophy.

Against all odds, Brazilian player Wendell Lira took home the coveted FIFA Puskas award, which crowns the best goal of the year.

Fans around the world voted between Alessandro Florenzi's stunner against Barcelona, Lionel Messi's Copa del Rey opener against Athletic Bilbao, and Wendell Lira's goal. More than 1.6 million fans voted via FIFA.com, giving Wendell 46.7% of the ballots.

- Wendell Lira (Vila Nova): 46.7%

- Lionel Messi (Barcelona): 33.3%

- Alessandro Florenzi (Roma): 7.1%
