Struggling side Hapoel Tel Aviv will host Olympique Lyon in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night. Chances for an upset are very slim, but Coach Guttman prefers to be hopeful.

Hapoel Tel Aviv's Eli Guttman prefers to be optimistic ahead of his side's clash against Olympique Lyonnais. Analytically, though, Hapoel have only a few chances of recording a home victory in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.Hapoel lost 2-0 away to Benfica two weeks ago as they failed to accomplish the first step of their European mission. Now, they face the task of bouncing back with a tough match against Olympique Lyon after surprisingly losing to Hapoel Ironi Kiryat Shmona in the domestic league last Saturday.

Things aren’t going smoothly for Hapoel Tel Aviv, but Coach Eli Guttman wants the situation to change on Wednesday night. During a press conference ahead of the match, the manager stated:

“We are coming into the match against Lyon at a time where our level of play isn’t as good as it once was. But, I prefer to look at the glass half full.

“A packed house at Bloomfield will offer us some energy which we haven’t had recently. In order to get a good result against Lyon, we will need to be at our best – both in terms of individual ability and in terms of play.”

Like Hapoel Tel Aviv, Olympique Lyon also suffered defeat on the domestic front last weekend. The French army lost their derby match to Saint-Etienne in the French Ligue 1. However, their loss has had no effect on Eli Guttman’s confidence ahead of the Hapoel Tel Aviv vs Olympique Lyon UEFA Champions League clash as the manager explained:

“I saw the match, and Lyon was by far the better team. They should have won by at least one or two goals. It’s actually a matter of peaks and valleys. Still, we can put up a fight against Olympique Lyonnais on any given day.”

Hapoel Tel Aviv fans will hope that Wednesday will witness a miracle. At the moment, the team occupies the bottom of Group B. Meanwhile, Lyon are second behind Benfica on goal difference.
