Benfica has scored more goals than any other team in the competition so far this season (33). Uniao de Madeira is trying to stay out of the relegation zone.

Uniao Madeira and Benfica will meet to catch up to the rest of the field in a game that was pending from the seventh week of action in the Primeira Liga. For Benfica, this is a perfect opportunity to secure the third spot of the league before the winter break takes place and for Uniao, a good chance to get a shocking result.

Benfica's Preview

Benfica is currently in third spot but only three point ahead of Braga, a team that has already played all its 13 games. A win for Benfica would increase their lead over Braga and close the gap between them and Porto, which is in second place with 33 points. Benfica currently has 27 points after 12 games.

Despite the league not having reached its halfway point yet, losing could dramatically hurt their chances to win it. They know that they are playing against an opponent that is leading their own fight to stay away from the relegation zone, making them a more dangerous opponent than what it might seem on paper.

While Raul Jimenez had a great start with his new team, in the domestic league, he has not been able to score since the end of August. They do have other players like Nicolas Gaitan that have helped Benfica's offense be the strongest one in the competition with 31 goals in their favor and only nine against them.

Uniao de Madeira

Playing at home may be seen as a big advantage for this team but it may not say much as they only have 10 points in 12 games so far this season. The team has only won one game out of the previous five while losing three of them.

The game was planned to be played back in October, but a dense fog did not allow the game to continue as scheduled. Now, more than two months later, Uniao is fighting to stay alive in the Primeira Liga. They are in 16th place with the same amount of points as Academica but with a slight goal differential advantage.

The team has had problems on both sides of the field. They have only scored seven goals and conceded 18. They are facing a team that is undefeated in their last four Primeira Liga games and whose only upset in the last five games came against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League 2-1.
