Getting rid of the Portuguese boss could cost the club millions. Have they found a solution?

Jose Mourinho’s time at Stamford Bridge appears to be reaching its final hours.

The Chelsea boss, once league football’s most feared manager, is now the laughing stock of the English Premier League, with the Blues sitting in 15th spot after losing 6 of their first 11 games.

Three consecutive defeats in all competitions have seen many call for the sacking of the Portuguese boss, with reports that the 52-year-old will be axed next weekend after Saturday’s trip to Stoke City.

However, owner Roman Abramovich faces a dilemma. With the Russian tycoon keen on adhering to UEFA Financial Fair Play guidelines, firing Mourinho will cost the club millions, though there are conflicting reports over the exact number.

But could Abramovich have now found a solution? Not yet, apparently. According to the Daily Mail, Ligue 1 side Monaco met with the Chelsea owner and offered a staggering £35m in exchange for the Special One.

Abramovich, however, rejected the offer, but would accept an offer from the French side should Monaco double the figure to £71m.

The prospect of an escape route from Chelsea could prove tempting to Jose. In addition, Ligue 1 could prove a challenge worth accepting. Should Mourinho head to France, he will be tasked with wrestling dominance from PSG.

Rumors are that the players of the west London side have turned on their manager; a condition which Mourinho claimed would be the only thing that would cause him to quit Chelsea.

For now, however, the former Real Madrid boss will solely be focused on Wednesday’s Champions League match, a home tie with Dynamo Kyiv.
